The World Intellectual Property Organization is an international organisation with its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. One of the 16 specialised agencies of the United Nations system of organisations, it is responsible for


  • the promotion of the protection of intellectual property throughout the world through co-operation among states
  • the administration of various multilateral treaties dealing with the legal and administrative aspects of intellectual property
  • the administration of the Patent Cooperation Treaty and PCT patent applications
