The method involves executing a virtualization process for producing copied automation apparatuses, which completely or partially replace or simulate actual automation apparatuses, where the simulated apparatuses are implemented on host computer systems (1). An actual automation apparatus is replaced by the copied simulated apparatus in such a manner that modified or unmodified automation apparatus software (4, 6, 8) of the actual automation apparatus are implemented and/or executable with the help of a virtualization and/or emulation environment. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for complete or partial simulation and/or replication of an actual automation system.
