The pressure control device has electromagnetically operated inlet and outlet valves (33,35) for controlled pressurisation and venting of a brake cylinder (5), under control of an electronic control unit (11), coupled to a pressure sensor (31), monitoring the brake cylinder pressure. The inlet valve and/or the outlet valve is provided with a valve piston (47,50) with alteration of the inlet or outlet cross-section via the valve piston stroke.
